Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, provides to individuals and groups nursing care requiring the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences. Assist RN's and physicians in assessment of patients and contributes information in planning and evaluating quality patient care. Considers emotional, social as well as physical needs. Provides direct technical nursing care to patients. Informs RN and / or physicians of patient's symptoms, reactions, progress, and other information pertaining to patient's care.
Responsibilities
- Assists Physicians and RN's in assessment of patients and contributes information in planning and evaluating quality patient care. Considers emotional, social, and physical needs
- Administers medications ordered by a licensed provider after having completed the 90-hour Pharmacology Course and passing the National Exam. Practices the Five Rights of safe medication administration.
- Responds to emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.
- Maintains excellence in clinical competency and nursing skills through continuing education.
- Informs Physician or RN of patient's symptoms, reactions, progress and other information pertaining to patient's care. Documents information in the medical record (paper and electronic) according to policies and procedures.
- Participates in the ongoing quality improvement program and responds to results obtained from data collection.
- Presents a positive professional appearance and attitude demonstrating excellent guest relation skills, interpersonal skills and team values within the Professional Corporation, Health Systems and community.
- Recognizes and respects Patient Rights
- Observes and maintains patient, staff and corporate confidentiality per policies and procedures.
- Manages and logs resulted lab culture results and prepares chart for physician reconciliation - makes follow up calls as appropriate.
- Manages and logs resulted radiology results and prepares chart for physician reconciliation.
- Calls report to outside facilities when needed.
- Answers call lights promptly and with courtesy
- Set up suture trays using aseptic technique.
- Joint aspiration
- Splint, Wrap, Sling, Swath and Cervical Collar application
- Crutches
- Wound dressings
- Assists with : Cardioversions, Defibrillations and Pacemakers
- Understands how to give tetanus, flu, and pneumonia shots
- Perform other duties as requested.
