Job Description
The JTAC Instructor is responsible for conducting Joint Terminal Attack Control (JTAC) training, simulator operations, and managing JTAC qualification processes in compliance with USSOCOM, Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), and unit-specific directives. The instructor provides essential expertise to maintain operational readiness and qualification standards of JTAC personnel.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide JTAC training across Initial Qualification Training (IQT), Mission Qualification Training (MQT), Continuation Training (CT), and Re-Qualification (RQ).
- Conduct upgrade training for JTAC Instructors and Evaluators.
- Operate JTAC simulators, including Joint Terminal Control-Training Rehearsal System (JTC-TRS), DT-100, HAVIC, and future accredited systems.
- Maintain proficiency in JTAC and JTAC-Instructor (JTAC-I) roles per guidelines outlined by JFS ESC AP MOA 2004-01, USSOCOM M350-5, AFSOCI 13-50, and related directives.
- Develop, implement, and maintain squadron simulator scenarios.
- Perform basic simulator troubleshooting, report issues, and coordinate repairs with appropriate services.
- Provide detailed mission briefings, conduct battlefield air operations training, and ensure proper operation and maintenance of specialized mission equipment.
- Assist JTAC Program Managers and Evaluator Program Managers with training, evaluations, and administrative tasks.
- Prepare and submit monthly status reports detailing simulator status, staff qualifications, training progression, and operational data.
- Participate in JTAC-related meetings, conferences, and symposiums as required.
- Perform travel to various training locations within and outside of the continental United States, as required.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in JTAC operations, including at least 2 years as a JTAC Instructor.
- Must possess current JTAC-I certification.

- Comprehensive understanding and experience with JTAC simulator systems.
- Knowledge of JFS ESC AP MOA 2004-01, USSOCOM M350-5, AFSOCI 13-50, and relevant military directives.
- Experience operating a variety of JTAC-related equipment, including battlefield air operations tools and communications systems.
- Ability to perform physical duties including navigating terrain, conducting weather observations, and safely managing live training environments.
- Proficiency with government databases and reporting systems, notably SOF JTAC Records Management System (SRMS).
- Familiarity with DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level I certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent military experience.
- JTAC-E (Evaluator) qualification is highly desirable.
- Current, active Secret security clearance preferred.
- Must be capable of performing duties under various physical conditions including extreme weather, confined spaces, and physically demanding environments.
- Ability to travel extensively within and outside the continental U.S. as mission requirements dictate.
