Dental Assistant - Full Time
We have an immediate need for a licensed Dental Assistant who is seeking a full-time position at Cass Lake Hospital, Cass Lake, MN (Map). The position is a 1 year contract at minimum, with option to continue employment. Full medical benefits, competitive pay, 401K, excellent work environment, 2 weeks paid vacation.
Dental Asistant will the following duties:
- Ability to provide age specific care and interaction;
- Provides chair side assistance during dental procedures;
- Anticipates the dentist's needs of instruments, materials, patient education, services;
- Performs sterilization of instruments, stocking, cleaning, and setup of operatories;
- Places sealants, temporary fillings, fluoride treatments;
- Performs supra-gingival scaling, fabrication of temporary crowns and bruxism splints;
- Takes impressions and radiographs;
- Patient education: demonstrates proper brushing, flossing and special cleansing techniques;
- Explains the cause of periodontal disease and dental caries;
- Recommends modifications in dietary habits,
- Explains benefits of fluorides and sealants;
- Discusses tobacco cessation and affects on oral health;
- Counsels and educates patients regarding specific procedures, treatment needed, treatment options, treatment risks and complications, referral procedures, and clinic policies;
- Obtains necessary consents and aids in referral process;
- Educates both individuals and groups;
- Knowledge of various dental materials, proper use and storage;
- Knowledge of dental theories as demonstrated by formal training and/or experience in clinical chairside assisting;
- Ability to multitask and anticipate the needs of patients and dentist in order to facilitate efficient and effective patient care;
- Knowledge of preventative measures and skill with patient education;
- Skill in performing expanded functions such as remove/place temporary crowns, place temporary restorative materials, polish amalgam restorations, remove excess supragingival cements, place and remove matrix retainers, preliminary fix crowns to check contacts, oral prophylaxis;
- Skill in conflict resolution and effective communication;
- Shall be knowledgeable and perform services using infection control practices in accordance with accreditation standards, IHS policy and procedures, OSHA, and other regulating agencies and laws;
- Shall use personal protective equipment to protect patient and personnel from exposure to infectious disease as appropriate, e.g., blood borne pathogens, TB, MRSA, etc.
- Shall provide emergency care;
- Potential exposure to contagious disease or infections;
- Ability to work independently;
- Provides services ¡n a professional and respeciful manner when dealing with patients and colleagues;
- Shall respect and maintain the basic rights of patients including personal dignity;
- Shall be able to speak with sufficient clarity, interpret, read, and write in English;
- Shall complete all required orientation and training;
- Shall sign in upon arriving to work and sign out upon departure, daily;
- Provide care to all age groups;
- Other related duties as assigned.

- Requires stooping, kneeling, reaching at higher or lower levels to file, remove or replace items;
- Sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods of time;

- Dental Assistant certification
- Basic Life Support certification
- X-Ray certification
- Provide evidence of immunization for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
