Position Title Assistant Professor of Physics Department Chemistry & Physics Position Category Faculty Job Description

The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Lincoln Memorial University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Physics. The candidate must have earned a PhD in Physics or an appropriate related discipline by the time of appointment. Primary teaching responsibilities may include lecture and lab sections for Introduction to Physics, General Physics I & II, Calculus Based Physics I & II, Introduction to Electronics, and/or other courses (e.g., Programming) based on interests and credentials. The faculty member will have the primary responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service in support of the University, School, and Department missions. To ensure a smooth transition into our academic community, the successful candidate will participate in LMU’s New Faculty Academy. Additionally, during their first year, the new faculty member will enjoy moderated scholarship and service expectations while receiving guidance and support from a faculty mentor assigned by the department

Required Qualifications

Earned PhD in Physics or appropriate related discipline; *educational preparation in accordance with requirements of the University and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and *evidence of potential for effective teaching and scholarly activity.

assist department chair in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Long-Range Strategic Plan and Outcomes Assessment Plan for the assigned program/department

support and promote the university’s SEWS and Transparent Instruction programs (as applicable) within the curriculum

Job Duty

assist the department chair with necessary department, school or university reports/schedules as requested

Job Duty

demonstrate current knowledge of discipline content and assist the department chair with curricular revisions and changes as requested

Job Duty

appropriately align course syllabi goals and objectives to academic major program goals and student outcomes for each course taught

Job Duty

develop a current syllabus for each assigned class and distribute a course syllabus to each student

Job Duty

submit a current copy of each syllabus to the department chair by a predetermined deadline

Job Duty

evaluate enrolled students and submit grades to the Registrar by a predetermined deadline

Job Duty

requisition instructional materials and supplies through the department chair

Job Duty

assure completion of the student course evaluation instrument for the semester as requested

Job Duty

participate in the faculty evaluation process and use the results to improve teaching and strengthen the major

Job Duty

establish and maintain the resources of the academic department, the school, and the University

Job Duty

submit to department chair his/her semester schedule that indicates weekly teaching assignment, office/conference hours and involvement in university, school and department councils or committees

effectively advise assigned students in an individualized educational plan for their program of study and maintain an accurate and current academic file for each advisee

Job Duty

explore career goals with each assigned advisee

Job Duty

mentor majors through the research process

Job Duty

fulfill the university’s scholarship expectation through research, publication, grant development, and creative achievement

Job Duty

participate in events that support the institution, the faculty, staff and students

Job Duty

participate in commencement exercises

Job Duty

participate in community and public service opportunities

Job Duty

attend department, school, convocation, and university faculty meetings

Job Duty

promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students, and to the community at large

promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students

maintain proper security for all University files and information and follow privacy procedures at all times

maintain records and procedures for duties and responsibilities of position

complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites
