2024-2025/77  HR Specialist, Payroll & Benefits   As of April 16, 2025   Job Listing:  HR Specialist, Payroll & Benefits WPLG, a top television station in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market, is looking for an experienced professional to perform a broad range of Payroll, HR, and Benefits Administration functions for 250 employees:   Payroll & Admin.: Process payroll biweekly for Exempt, Non-Exempt and Commissioned employees, including tracking PTO (vacation, sick, holidays, etc.), merit increases and update departmental labor budgets. Generate payroll related reports. Calculate termination payments in compliance with company policy and federal & state laws; calculate adjustments, special pays, retroactive payments and overpayment of wages; issue manual payments as required. Ensure the accuracy of benefit enrollments and provide accurate eligibility information via File Feeds to third party carriers. Review and reconcile benefit vendor invoices for accuracy and approve for payment. Follow up with vendors for discrepancies. Submit payroll and benefit reports to external agencies as requested. Assist with the annual workers compensation audit and 401-k audit. Ensure timely distribution of W2s     HR & Benefits: Primary point of contact for day-to-day questions/issues that arise, including interpretation of HR policies, practices and procedures to employees and managers. Handle job postings internally and externally.  Communicate to all employees’ related HR and Company benefits, events or changes. Process background investigations, I-9/e-Verify. Conduct new employee hire orientations, notifies new and assists existing employees with Health Benefits (medical, dental, vision), 401-k, FMLA, Tuition Reimbursement and Worker’s Compensation questions. Process Worker’s Comp. claims and report auto accidents in company-owned vehicles. Conduct annual open enrollment renewal; Monitors employee health & wellness program; Explains to employees how to process life status changes. Complete annual EEO Public File Report documenting list of open positions, recruitment sources and activities.  Assist terminating employees with exit paperwork and administer the steps needed to comply with COBRA law.  Process Life Insurance claims. Investigate and document employee issues; Consult with outside legal counsel. Focus on best practices and process improvement.    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Minimum 5 years of Payroll / HR / Benefits experience.  Understanding of current HR regulations.  Degree in HR or related field preferred.  Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures is a plus. Computer savvy, fluency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with Dayforce/Ceridian software is a plus. Close attention to detail and accuracy are integral.  Maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding executives, managers, supervisors and other employees. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating a sense of urgency is a must.  Proven ability to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written. Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.   WORK ENVIRONMENT: Requires continuous visual ability for use of computer, files and reports. Requires sitting, stooping, bending and minimal lifting.
