Organizational Background
Local Matters is a nonprofit working to improve food security and health across communities through food education, access, advocacy, and rescue. We provide comprehensive programs that give people the resources, knowledge, and skills to eat well and feed their families on a budget. In 2023, we reached over 20,000 people with our critical education and access programming.
Position Summary
Working with a small and committed team, the Communications and Advocacy Manager will manage Local Matters’ digital platforms, including the website, social media accounts, email, and other outlets, and support leadership in advocacy efforts to deepen relationships with constituents and expand support for the organization.
Primary Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Research and identify grant and sponsorship opportunities
- Conduct pre-grant application meetings with appropriate Local Matters team members to determine potential project ideas, cost/benefits, timelines, and application process
- Lead the grant-writing process, including writing proposals and submitting all documents
- Develop and maintain grant-activity reporting system and related confidential files
- Coordinate grant and sponsorship reporting and prepare and submit required grant reports
- Manage donor database, including tracking grant applications, funding awards, sponsorships, individual and household giving, tax receipts, and overall data management
- Collaborate with Director of Development to execute 2-3 annual fundraising campaigns
- Draft fundraising appeals and other donor communications, as requested
- Collaborate with relevant Local Matters team members to ensure program delivery, data collection and analysis, and reporting are consistent with grant requirements/agreements
- Assist with donor outreach, cultivation, stewardship, and special events
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of three years of fundraising or related professional experience
- Experience with CRM or other contact-management databases
- Experience in developing proposals for foundations, corporations, and/or government
- Experience working collaboratively with other staff, interns, and volunteers
- Strong communications and grant writing skills
- Strong detail orientation, organization and time-management skills
- Ability to work with direction and minimal supervision
- Basic computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and Google Workspace
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Compensation and Benefits
Local Matters offers a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, retirement, generous PTO, and a hybrid work schedule. The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $55,000.
