What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Lab Technician position at Lochmead Dairy?
Objective
The Lab Technician’s primary objective is to test and review the cleanliness, sanitation, and quality of our products and facility; to review lab results and report findings to the QA Manager.
Compensation
This is an hourly paid position, scheduled as a 5 day work week (Monday through Friday) and 40 hours per week with occasional overtime and/or rotating weekend work. The typical start time begins between 6:00-8:00am and ends when the job is done. Flexibility in one’s schedule is essential.
Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience working in lab, micro lab preferred
- Helpful to have a degree in a related field (ex: Food Science), but is not required
- Excellent written, oral communication, and typing skills
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Flexible and works well with change
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills
- Problem solve for the good of the company
- Must have good personal hygiene
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lab Work
· Responsible for any testing performed in the lab including analysis procedures, micro plating products and frequency of testing
· Assure the quality of all ingredients via lab testing procedures
· Communicate with supervisors when products are out of spec
- Conduct allergen testing
- Routine lab duties such as taking inventory, scale and thermometer calibrations, ordering supplies, and computer data entry
- Documentation and filing of SOPs, COAs, FSMA related data, holds, micro logs, mock recalls and more
- Quality Assurance
· Has the responsibility to notify a supervisor when a HACCP, GMP, or SOP procedures have been deviated from
· Daily sensory analysis of every product coming off the line
· Assist as needed on special projects such as:
- Ice cream room relief
- Safety Committee
- HACCP Committee

You must complete your Food Safety Training within the first 30 days of starting a new position. Lochmead will continue to test you on two SOPs every month as an ongoing commitment to continuous food safety improvements.
