HOURS
2nd Shift = 3pm-11pm
3rd Shift = 11pm -7am
*Due to Union bumping rights, applicants must have shift flexibility*

2nd shift premium = $1.80/hr

3rd shift premium = $1.25/hr

SUMMARY
Responsible for the review, verification and documentation of steel coils used in the manufacturing of tubing and for the verification and packaging of steel tubing from the mill production area onto lifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Retrieves Support Operator sheet. Reviews mill order with Mill Operator.

Documents data onto operator sheet.

Checks guide, pinch rolls, scotch brite pads and welder; replaces or repairs as needed.

Sets pressure on flooper to steel size and gauge.

Retrieves and verifies coil to order.

Loads coil onto uncoiler with JIB crane, verifies correct placement by edge cut. Removes radius band.

Visually inspects coil for nonconforming conditions such as rust/stains, pits, lamination, scratches, handling damage, cut outs, rough edges, smut/excessive oil, cross breaks, orange peel.

Set weld temperature to gauge.

Measures head gauge and documents on Service Operator sheet.

Enter gauge reading into mainframe and document reading on SPC chart.

Retrieves inspection box, rags and gloves needed for handling the tubing.

Reviews shop order with Mill Operator for tube length, lift size, piece count per lift, customer, gauge, weld location, footage and other packaging instructions.

Visually verifies tally rand length setting matches the shop order length.

Visually inspects if a lift is staged on mill conveyor. If not, retrieves the appropriate size lift as specified on shop order.

Verifies lift size, current piece count, visual condition and packaging.

At start of the shift production, removes the first 5 or 6 pieces and visually inspects tubing for open seam, scarf removal, straightness end cut, mill length, roll lines, “C” marks, dents, scratches and scarf. If acceptable, proceeds, making sure dump timing delay is properly adjusted so tubes hit back stop and not each other.

Stacks tubing onto lift as specified by shop order by lifting several tubes overhead by hand and stacking them. On those mills, which have them, the Positech Magnetic lifting arms may be used, when allowed. Inspect a minimum of 3 tubes per row for defects defined above.

Notifies Mill Operator of nonconforming tubing.

Completes lift quantity and covers with paper. Places cardboard underneath lift, then notifies Mil Bander.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Less than high school education; or at least 6th grade education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Machine Operator experience a plus

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algerbra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
