Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years or older
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Experience working with school-age children
- Proven ability to work effectively with a team
- Demonstrate written and oral skills
- Maintain high energy level
- Stand for extended period of time
- Lift 25 lbs.
- Tolerate outside weather conditions
- Hold current certificates in CPR and first aid or gain certification within 30 days from date of hire
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Ensure student safety at all times.
- Create and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Instruct/lead students during all lessons, activities, and games.
- Prepare for lessons and activities prior to student arrival; store materials at the end of each day.
- Assist the site manager with lesson planning.
- Assist children in maintaining the standards of behavior set by the program by using non-punitive disciplinary methods and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and co-workers.
- Keep daily attendance and report any absences immediately to the site manager. Maintain accurate daily attendance forms.
- Work effectively in a team setting.
- Actively participate in team meetings with the site manager and fellow group leaders.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development/training as required by the Director of Community Education.
- Know all campus emergency procedures.
- Know the procedures for medical emergencies.
- Complete and submit daily/weekly reports to the site manager.
- Maintain professional conduct at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
