The Histology Technician is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory procedures related to the processing and analysis of tissue samples for dermatological diagnoses. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Receive and accession tissue specimens, ensuring proper labeling and documentation
Perform routine histological procedures, including tissue embedding, sectioning, staining (e.g., H&E, special stains), and coverslippingMaintain accurate and complete records of all procedures performedQuality Control :Ensure the quality and accuracy of all histological preparations
Perform quality control checks at various stages of the processing and staining processTroubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions as neededEquipment Maintenance :Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment, including microtomes, embedding stations, and staining machines
Assist with the installation and troubleshooting of new equipmentSafety and Compliance :Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials
Maintain a clean and organized work environmentComply with all relevant laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA)Other Duties as Assigned :Assist with other laboratory tasks as needed, such as inventory management, equipment maintenance, and training of new staff
Qualifications :
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Histotechnology or a related field preferredExperience : 1-2 years of experience as a Histology Technician in a clinical or research setting preferredSkills :Strong technical skills in histological techniques, including tissue processing, sectioning, and stainingExcellent attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong organizational and time-management skillsProficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate recordsOther :Experience with dermatopathology preferredKnowledge of CLIA regulations and safety protocols preferredExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsJ-18808-Ljbffr
