Lockton Affinity, located in Overland Park, Kansas, is currently hiring for a person to join the Underwriting team as an Assistant Underwriter. Our Underwriting team serves as an insurance industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and properly insuring their exposures. This position will be responsible for qualifying individual risks in accordance with our underwriting guidelines.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow established procedures for reviewing new and renewal applications, assessing risk eligibility, and providing competitive pricing guidance.
- Communicate with internal and external customers to gather and analyze insurance information, supporting underwriting activities such as quoting, binding, issuing, and endorsing policies.
- Ensure compliance with referral criteria outside of underwriting authority.
- Prepare files for underwriter approval outside of authority by performing preliminary review and evaluation of the risk.
- Document and communicate policy approvals or rejections to the underwriting team and customers in a timely manner.
- Review and process transactional items for individual risks.
- Perform other work-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or other relevant study preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in commercial Property and Casualty insurance, with a solid understanding of relevant concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Rating and underwriting experience.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in accordance with regulatory and carrier requirements for moderately complex items.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
