Position Description
Staff Accountant - Construction
Primary Function:
The primary function of the Staff Accountant is day-to-day management of accounting operations for a portfolio of jobs within Lockwood Construction. The Staff Accountant follows all policies and procedures established by Lockwood Companies and reports to The Executive Vice President of Finance.
Typical Duties:
- Preparation of monthly projects draws, creating AIA’s, sworn statements and all appropriate waivers.
- Recording accounts receivable from project draws, tracking and following up with funding sources and title companies on draw payments.
- Responsible for the payment process to vendors and subcontractors based on project draws. Confirm lien waivers and sworn statements are properly collected and submitted as needed.
- Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders to monitor project budgets, analyze project costs, and provide financial insights to support decision-making.
- Percentage of Completion Accounting - Develop and maintain effective Percentage of Completion forecast capability. Assess adequacy of resource deployment commensurate with known project schedules and workload. Ensure adequate cost accumulation on each project.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, WIP and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the monthly job cost report process with the EVP of Construction and project managers for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated work in progress reports for internal and external use.
- Assist in providing information to external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Skills and knowledge necessary for satisfactory performance include but are not limited to:
- Minimum of associates degree in accounting, Bachelor's preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 2 years working for a General Contractor or other construction profession.
- Minimum of 2 years of job costing experience
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial data and trends to support strategic decision-making.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with a high level of initiative and adaptability.
