The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Long-Term Substitute Reading Teacher to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.
Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
Provides instruction in the Wilson Reading System to students.
Ongoing assessment of student(s) progress and identify areas to help support and accelerate learning.
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.
Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.
Work Hours and Benefits:
This position in our Middle School with an anticipated start date of March 18, 2025 through June 18, 2025. There are no benefits with this position.
Training and Education:
NYS Certification in Reading
Certified in the Wilson Reading System
Job Qualifications
Middle School experience is preferred.
Experience teaching with the Wilson Reading System.
Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.
Proven ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and partner with students & parents in the learning process.
Experience designing student-centered lessons that individually challenges students and inspires them to grow.
Highly skilled in differentiating instruction to personalize learning to meet the diverse needs of all students.
Demonstrated understanding of authentic assessment, data-driven instruction, and methods for gathering and evaluating evidence of deeper learning accounting for learning differences.
Experience with the various co-teach models, collaborative lesson planning, and team-teaching.
Highly skilled with small group/individual instruction.
