LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: WORK EXPERIENCE ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Provide a variety of career and vocational opportunities for individuals with exceptional needs; assist with providing assessment and training services, testing, and career exploration to meet the goals and objectives of the school to work transition plan. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Provide a variety of career and vocational opportunities for individuals with exceptional needs; participate in identifying and developing prospective work sites; conduct job searches for individual students; communicate with potential employers and explain the work experience program and the needs of students. E Assist students in developing and refining occupational goals and in developing grooming, communication skills, problem-solving skills, attendance, public contacts and other appropriate work behaviors; provide mobility/travel training. E Monitor the performance of students at the work site and in the classroom; report behaviors and performance to instructors and parents as appropriate. E Prepare and maintain student records, evaluations and files; collect intake data on previous work experience; prepare payroll packets, work permits and other required documents; receive and process time sheets from employers and compute costs for student payment. E Provide pre-tests and post-tests to students according to established procedures and time lines. E Provide transportation for students to various sites for interviews and other job-related activities as needed; arrange for student transportation as needed. E Serve as liaison with students, community members, schools, employers, parents and staff. E Attend a variety of meetings and conferences; participate on assigned committees. Operate a computer and other office machines as assigned; operate audio-visual equipment. Maintain inventory of office supplies and order materials as needed. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Work experience program goals and objectives. Job placement techniques. Record-keeping techniques. Oral and written communication skills. Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Transport students to various sites. Meet schedules and time lines. Operate standard office and audio-visual equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and increasingly responsible experience working with students in a related program or other student services area. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Board Approved 11/2/99
