CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS CENTER ASSISTANT
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform library and clerical duties related to the acquisition, circulation, control and maintenance of textbooks, audio/visual and library materials for the Instructional Materials Center (IMC); respond to teachers requests and provide curriculum enrichment materials for classroom use; assist with the research, ordering, receiving, processing and distributing of textbooks, library books and audio-visual materials.

Provide a variety of information and assistance to teachers and other IMC users concerning the availability, location and use of instructional materials, equipment and supplies; respond to teachers’ requests and provide curriculum enrichment materials for classroom use. E
Assist library personnel in the research and ordering of books, audio/visual equipment and other media materials for the IMC and schools; complete purchase requisitions for vendors; check in, process orders; inspect orders for accuracy and notify appropriate personnel and department of damages, shortages, discrepancies and other errors; complete documentation for payment according to established guidelines. E
Prepare textbooks, library books and other materials for processing; prepare and update master inventory lists. E
Process requests for IMC materials from teachers and other users; select material according to appropriate subject matter, and variety at the proper grade or education level; process orders for delivery according to approved procedures. E
Process and prepare new IMC materials, including audio-visual equipment, records, filmstrips, video cassettes, and encyclopedias for check-out and circulation to District personnel; prepare catalog cards, update and distribute IMC inventory lists to District personnel. E
Check in books, audio/visual equipment and instructional materials; inspect for proper condition, damages and needed repair and notify prior user as necessary; re-shelve or route to proper location; repair, clean and organize materials as necessary. E
Prepare and maintain accurate account of a variety of records, logs, catalogs, lists and files related to instructional materials resources including textbook adoption, records of use, circulation, inventory records and lists of available resources; prepare and distribute overdue notices according to established procedures; submit to appropriate school, personnel and department as required. E
Distribute State adopted curriculum to schools according to District procedures; receive materials and designate appropriate school. E
Operate a variety of equipment, including a computer terminal, typewriter, cassette and videotape duplicators, adding machine, copier, and letter machine. E
Perform data entry to put school libraries on-line; provide library system support to school sites.
Perform a variety of clerical duties such as typing, compiling information and data for reports and purchase orders, receiving and distributing mail; maintain inventory supply levels and prepare orders as needed maintain appropriate levels.
Conduct inservice training to District library staff as assigned; serve as back-up to school library staff as assigned.
Oversee the distribution and circulation of audio/visual equipment and materials at District elementary schools.
Repair filmstrips, cassettes and others; report damaged equipment and order replacements as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and increasingly responsible and varied library experience.

Lifting, pushing and pulling moderately heavy objects.
Bending, reaching, and stooping to retrieve various instructional media materials.

Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal and standard library equipment.
