TITLE: Intervention Specialist Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with the appropriate course work to perform the teaching duties necessary in a multiple handicapped classroom. 2. Intervention Specialist teaching certificate. 3. Ability to work effectively with others. 4. Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. 5. Effective, active listening skills. 6. Organizational and problem solving skills. 7. Knowledge of public school policies and practices. 8. Basic computer skills. Additional Working Conditions: 1. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and therapeutic holding as required, regular lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. 2. Regular requirement to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch and lift and carry various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds, e.g.,materials, texts, and other equipment required for use with handicapped children. REPORTS TO: Special Education Supervisor/Building Principal JOB GOAL: Plan, implement, evaluate and manage differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies to address the individual needs of students enrolled in handicapped programs. Present appropriate learning experiences consistent with the school district's instructional goals, objectives, and mandated requirements. Provide personalized guidance and support to help students mature and make appropriate choices to realize their intellectual, social, and vocational potentials. Actively involve parents and colleagues as teaching partners. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-Month Employee. Salary and work year to be in accordance with the LEA Negotiated Agreement. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform all assigned duties according to the policies, rules, and regulations of the Logan-Hocking School District. Comply with all Federal mandates as they apply to students with disabilities. Be accountable to the Supervisor/Principal for compliance with directives of the Superintendent and/or his or her designee. Demonstrate broad knowledge of special education and teaching proficiency. Employ the requisite components and information necessary to provide an Individualized Educational Program (I.E.P.) for each student consistent with mandated requirement and school policy. Use the I.E.P. information to prepare and carry out clear, usable, and sequential daily lesson plans showing course direction. Ensure the learning process is guided toward the basic core program for special education students. Work collaboratively with the classroom teachers when appropriate, to ensure the student's I.E.P. goals and objectives are being met throughout the school day. Document student progress. Share information and maintain regular communication with appropriate classroom teachers to support a congruent effort toward identified goals and objectives. Establish a structured learning environment that fosters a positive self-concept and sense of well being. Use Strategies that motivate students to develop sound problem solving and reasoning skills. Assist in the daily care and health needs of the students as needed. Work cooperatively with support staff (Speech & Language, Psychologist, Physical and Occupational Therapist, etc.). Complete appropriate student referral forms for possible assessment, as needed. Make recommendations to the principal/supervisor concerning future placements. Participate in annual review conferences. Attempt to develop rapport and maintain the confidence of parents and students. Provide periodic progress reports to parents using telephone calls, notes, interim reports, report cards, and conferences, etc. Make reasonable provisions to be available to parents and students for educational purposes beyond the instructional day, when requested. Maintain complete and accurate classroom records, reports, and inventories, as required by law, district policy, or administrative directive. Ensure the confidentiality of privileged information. Consult with Intervention Assistance Team (I.A.T) as required. Provide close supervision and take reasonable precautions to ensure student safety. Promote the proper care of school property, equipment, textbooks, supplies, and other materials. Account for school resources used by students. Communicate school rules to students. Maintain high standards for student conduct and enforce discipline according to classroom/school policy and the due process rights of students. Employ techniques that motivate students to establish appropriate short and long-term goals. Provide positive reinforcement to acknowledge acceptable behavior. Share in the responsibility for authorized committee work and program activities, when requested. Suggest books, equipment, instructional materials, or teaching techniques that will enhance the educational process. Prepare the assigned classroom at the beginning of the year. Retrieve inventory of supplies and equipment as required. Store equipment and supplies at the end of the school year. Participate in staff meetings and in-service training. Assist the students in carrying out goals established in related therapy sessions. Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or supervisor.
