What are the responsibilities and job description for the PBC STEM Extern position at Loggerhead Marinelife Center?
Overview of Responsibilities
1. Hosts shall build a four-week experience in which teacher externs contribute to company operations by applying science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics skills.
2. Hosts will begin necessary pre-employment protocols and onboarding processes applicable for their organizations.
3. Goals of the program and project expectations will be clearly communicated at the beginning of the experience. Hosts will communicate to teacher externs what deliverables are expected and convey the timetable for the externship.
4. Hosts shall engage in debriefing meetings with the teacher extern and should include time to allow the extern to discuss his/her experiences.
Potential discussion topics include:
● contributions to the host business
● real world connections relating to the content the extern teaches
● the impact this experience will have on teaching practices/classrooms/students/schools
● the connections the extern has made between the worksite and the importance of the 4C’s (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity)
● ways businesses and schools can work together to enhance the classroom environment
5. The host will provide compensation ($150 daily before taxes and deductions, suggested) to teachers based on company policy. The externship is designed as a four-week experience. The dates and times of the externship shall be mutually agreed upon and confirmed prior to the work experience.
6. Externship hosts will participate in a program evaluation survey.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position may involve working outdoors in Florida, often in hot and humid conditions, and at events that extend into evening and weekend hours. Must be willing and able to travel for offsite programming and possess a valid driver’s license.
