The Commercial Locksmith is responsible for performing intermediate-level installations, servicing, and troubleshooting of security cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems. This position requires independent work on cabling, hardware installation, and basic programming, while also supporting senior technicians in more complex installations. The Commercial Locksmith plays a key role in maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency in field operations. This position reports to the Field Services Supervisor and indirectly to the Field Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
Installation & Technical Tasks
  • Independently install security cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems, ensuring proper placement and functionality.
  • Perform cabling, wire termination, conduit work, and device mounting with precision.
  • Conduct basic programming and configuration of installed systems.
  • Assist in advanced system programming and testing under the guidance of senior technicians.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
  • Diagnose and resolve installation and connectivity issues in the field.
  • Provide on-site technical support to customers and address basic service requests.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or the Field Services Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of troubleshooting steps and resolutions.
Operational Efficiency & Compliance
  • Maintain organized work areas and adhere to safety guidelines on job sites.
  • Ensure installations meet company SOPs, SOGs, and industry standards.
  • Properly document work performed, time logs, and project notes in service management software.
  • Follow company protocols for tool and equipment maintenance.
Mentorship & Team Collaboration
  • Assist in training and mentoring Field Services Technician I team members on best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with senior technicians and supervisors to complete projects efficiently.
  • Provide feedback on installation challenges and process improvements.

Skills and Experience Needed:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical certification in low-voltage systems, access control, or networking preferred.
Experience:
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience in security system installation, access control, or IT networking.
  • Experience with low-voltage cabling, conduit work, and hardware installation.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues independently.
  • Strong knowledge of wiring, structured cabling, and device integration.
  • Familiarity with project management and service ticketing software.

Soft Skills & Work Ethic:
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in installations.
  • Excellent communication skills when working with team members and customers.

Certifications:
  • OSHA 10 Certification or equivalent safety training required
  • Access control, security camera, or networking certifications preferred.
  • BICSI I Certification required.
  • BICSI II Copper Certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Certification or equivalent safety training preferred.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Timely and high-quality completion of assigned projects.
  • Successful troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
  • Adherence to company SOPs, industry standards, and safety protocols.
  • Contribution to team efficiency by mentoring junior technicians.
  • Accurate documentation of work performed and service tickets.
  • Completion of various manufacturer certification(s) or training courses within 6 months.
  • Completion of BICSI II Copper Certification within 12 months.
  • Completion of OSHA 30 Certification or equivalent safety training within 18 months.
