Purpose
Process all denied and unpaid claims submitted to insurance carriers to ensure payments are received and provide oversight to internal Billing Specialists doing similar work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review all denials on an explanation of benefits (EOB) and work on issues/errors until resolved
- Review A/R reports to follow up on any unpaid claims
- Submit required appeals when needed
- Submit any required documentation to insurance companies as requested
- Review claims for accuracy to ensure it is processed in a timely manner
- Communicate with insurance companies, adjustors and attorneys on a regular basis
- Correct any errors and resubmit all unprocessed or returned claims to insurance companies
- Enter new information into billing software to create HCFA bills
- Assist the Billing staff in resolving issues and answering their questions
- Forward issues to appropriate Account Manager & Billing Manager when necessary
- Review the Billing staff’s A/R reports to ensure they are being reviewed and worked on
- Help out other departments with projects as assigned

Education (Degrees, Certificates, Licenses, Etc.)
High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Computer Skills
Prior MS Office experience, including proficiency with Excel and Word, and internet software experience required.
Experience
One to two years related billing experience preferred; Previous Billing Specialist experience highly desired.

- Ability to add, to subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; this ability will encompass using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customer or fellow employees
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
