Summary of Duties

The Precision Long-Line Pilot will cover operations of a BHT-407 Helicopter for a USFS Short-Haul Contract in Northern California from mid-May through mid-October (150 days). This unique opportunity involves providing critical support for specialized missions in a stunning and challenging environment. This position reports to the Chief Pilot and requires a commitment to safe and conscientious flight operations, excellent communication, customer service focus, sound judgment, and objectivity in decision-making. There is a potential for full-time employment post-season.

Experience and proficiency in the following major areas:

• Extensive flight operations experience BHT-407
• Human External Cargo (HEC) experience
• Sling experience with 100’ or 150’ lines
• Thorough knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and USFS requirements
• FAR compliance
• Experience in flight and operational planning
• Weight and balance data
• Fuel management
• Proficient in tracking duty, flight, and maintenance records

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform duties as PIC of BHT-407
• Conduct Short-Haul and Human External Cargo (HEC) missions and external load operations
• Operate helicopter accessory equipment to carry out long-line missions with 100’ or 150’ lines
• Accurately track and maintain written and computerized duty, flight, and maintenance logs and records
• Maintain weight and balance data
• Fuel management
• Report maintenance issues to the Director of Maintenance
• Adhere to Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM)
• Conduct yourself as a professional pilot as an ambassador of the company, take excellent care of the customer, the aircraft, and its overall condition, security, and cleanliness
• Comply with company Employee Manual, GOM, SMS, SOP’s, and Ops Specs
• Participate in out-of-town travel, work, and overtime work, as required
• Positively represent Lohman Helicopter through a professional and favorable appearance to the public and to the companies and entities that we work with
• Satisfactorily complete all company mandated and assigned training classes and training courses within given time limits
• Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the landing zone, including the activities of other employees and contractors, and the movement of equipment/helicopters
• Maintain a consistent, open, and honest line of communication with your supervisor
• Actively participate in company SMS program
• Make safety a priority at all times

Other Duties as Assigned: Due to the nature of small business operations, it may occasionally be necessary to fulfill task requirements of varied nature.

Required Skill/Experience/Qualifications/Licenses

• Valid and current FAA Commercial Rotorcraft Helicopter License
• 2,000 hours RW PIC of which 50 hours in Bell 407 aircraft
• 300 hours sling time with 100’ or 150’ line
• Meet USFS Pilot carding requirements and 2025 interagency carding requirements
• Previously OAS carded in Bell 407 aircraft
• Medical Class 1 or 2 (current)
• Current Driver License with a clean driving record
• Prepared to travel within the operational region
• Must pass a DOT drug test

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Human External Cargo (HEC) experience in powerline work or short-haul missions
• Currently OAS carded in Bell 407 aircraft
• Current interagency card
• Low Level & Recon
• Mountain Terrain

Compensation

Employment Status: W2 (Non-Exempt), Temporary/Seasonal

Daily Rate: $750.00-$900.00 per day DOE. This is a daily rate position. The hourly wage for this position is based on the state-required minimum wage. The daily rate meets and exceeds the overtime regulations, based upon the minimum wage requirement.

Flight Hour Pay: $50.00 per hour

Out of Town Per Diem: Yes

Extended Standby: Yes

Travel and Out of Town Lodging: Company paid and arranged

Schedule: This position is temporary/seasonal and will be stationed in Northern California, operating a Bell 407 for a USFS Short-Haul contract from mid-May through mid-October (150 days). The Precision Long-Line Pilot will be required to work varied shifts, flying typically 3-5 days per week, depending on mission requirements, weekends are usually taken off. There is a potential for full-time employment post-season.
