ABOUT THE ROLE

Lois Law Firm is seeking a New York-Barred Attorney to join our growing litigation practice, where you will defend some of America’s most iconic employers in New York workers’ compensation actions. This role requires a willingness to stand up for your clients, to be an advocate, and to ensure a fair court process for all parties. You will have significant client contact and opportunities to present creative strategies in court.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualified applicant is a New York-Barred Attorney with a passion for litigating and a desire to dominate a specialist niche. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Appeals Attorney to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting and filing appeals, conducting legal research, and providing strategic advice to clients. This role requires a deep understanding of New York appellate procedure, particularly that of the 3rd Department, strong analytical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities. You will work with the Firm’s trial attorneys, law clerks, and outside appellate vendors to deliver exceptional service to our clients.

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 (five) years of experience in appellate litigation.
• Successful candidates must be ambitious and driven, possess a strong work ethic and have good interpersonal skills.
• Proven track record of successful appellate work. Please attach at least three writing samples from appeals filed within the last six months (links are acceptable alternative). These can be appeals from workers’ compensation proceedings or appeals to any department (appeals to the 3rd Department preferred as samples).
• Exceptional legal research and writing skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Want to make a difference for New York’s employers and further justice and due process rights for all.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Draft and file appellate briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support appellate arguments.
• Review trial records and identify potential grounds for appeal.
• Develop and implement effective appellate strategies.
• Collaborate with trial attorneys to ensure a seamless transition from trial to appeal.
• Present oral arguments in appellate courts as needed.
• Stay updated on changes in appellate law and relevant legal precedents.
• Provide clients with clear and concise legal advice regarding their appeals.
• Maintain accurate and organized case files and documentation.

Salary : $120,000 - $175,000
