WPS is a high-achieving west-suburban district of 2,800 students, with one preschool, three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. QUALIFICATIONS |
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprints.
Education:
- Associates degree preferred, but not required
Specialized Knowledge:
- Familiar with the developmental needs of children, including their social and emotional needs
- Commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, belonging, and anti-racism
Experience (preferred, but not required):
- 1-2 years of experience working with groups of children, preferably in an educational, camp, or childcare setting
- Experience with diverse populations of children and supporting students with special needs
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a team
- Specialized Skills:
- Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work cooperatively/collaboratively as member of a team
- Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
- Must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production.

Job Description:
As an ESY Paraprofessional, you will work closely with special education teachers and other staff to support students with diverse learning needs. Your role will include assisting with individualized instruction, promoting positive behaviors, and helping students develop their academic, social, and daily living skills. You will provide essential support both inside and outside the classroom and help create a positive, inclusive environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students with special needs in following the curriculum and completing assignments.
- Support students in the classroom, including providing one-on-one or small group assistance.
- Help students with physical tasks as needed, such as transitioning between activities, moving between classrooms, or using assistive technology.
- Support students in developing social skills, behavioral strategies, and emotional regulation.
- Reinforce the teacher’s lessons and activities by providing additional instruction, guidance, or practice as necessary.
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide feedback to the teacher on student progress.
- Help manage classroom behavior and implement behavior intervention strategies.
- Assist with personal care, mobility, or other daily activities when necessary.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch, recess, or field trips.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and report concerns or observations to the teacher or special education staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to meet the needs of students.
- Assist with organizing classroom materials and ensuring the classroom is conducive to learning.

- operate a computer and other school/office/educational productivity machinery;
- observe details at close range;
- in the school setting, ensure the safety of students;
- multitask and meet multiple demands from several people;

- the noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
