What are the responsibilities and job description for the Genetics Counselor Assistant position at Loma Linda University Health?
Job Summary: The Genetics Counseling Assistant (GCA) will serve as a clinical assistant to the physician geneticists and genetic counselors in the Division of Genetics. Assists in case preparation including pre-clinic telephone calls to patients to obtain family histories. Assists with processing of genetic testing documentation. Facilitates genetic testing, places orders, organizes send outs, coordinates tracking of results and reports requested by genetics team. Facilitates completion of patient encounters. Performs clerical duties as needed (faxing, filing, mailing, copying etc.) Puts together follow-up letters Performs transcription functions by shadowing a provider and taking notes in the electronic medical record. Records the history of present illness, medical history, review of systems, positive findings from the physical exam and the provider's impression and plan. Is accountable for the accurate transcription of medical reports, history, and physical, etc. Accurately and thoroughly documents in the patient's medical record only information that is verbalized (i.e. word for word) by the physician and/or independent licensed practitioners for whom the transcribing is being performed. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Associates degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Completed course work in medical terminology, stenographer, secretarial or transcription is preferred. Minimum six months of transcription experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to keyboard 50 wpm. Able to use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Valid/Current unrestricted California Driver's license required.
