Labor & Delivery (Full-time, Day Shift)
Job Summary : The Program Specialist collaborates with Patient Business Office and Decision Support Services to update and maintain the perinatal billing system and charge master; assigns billing codes and descriptions to new procedures and inventory items. Verifies and post daily charges; audits medical records for billing accuracy; researches billing issues and collaborates with patient billing office, Health Information Management, and Decision Support Services for resolution. Prepares statistical reports; provides education for unit secretaries, perinatal technicians, and nurses regarding billing processes. Coordinates, records, and transmits information pertinent to the scheduling of patients undergoing obstetrical surgeries, procedures, and consultations. Obtains accurate and complete information to complete the Birth Certificate for every baby born in the facility. Enters birth registration information in the State's data system. Assists / advises parents with obtaining Social Security number and birth certificate for their child. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience : High school diploma or GED required. Minimum one year college preferred. Minimum one year of previous unit secretary experience or equivalent in a medical environment required.
