What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Custodian position at Loma Prieta Joint Union Elementary?
DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
Under the direction of the director of maintenance and operations, perform routine and skilled custodial maintenance to provide a healthy, safe and attractive physical environment for students and community.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean assigned classrooms, offices, hallways, work rooms, eating areas, locker rooms, common use areas and all other district rooms.
- Clean, restock and disinfect restrooms.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, polish tile and linoleum, vacuum and shampoo carpets, clean drinking fountains, windows, white boards, walls and vents.
- Empty and clean trash receptacles.
- Pick up trash, lost and found and sporting equipment.
- Check campus for vandalism and break-ins.
- Ensure the campus is safe.
- Follow established safety procedures and report safety hazards and vandalism to supervisor.
- Lock and unlock doors and gates and turn on/off alarm system.
- Available for emergency clean ups, fire and building alarm notification.
- Maintain inventory of custodial supplies.
- Keep tools and machines in clean, working order.
- Perform minor to major repairs as needed.
- Report maintenance issues to supervisor.
- Available for set up and tear down for assemblies, sporting events, and special activities as requested by supervisor.
- Perform special/emergency custodial work upon request and approval by the supervisor.
- Move, rearrange, switch, and/or adjust furniture and equipment upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or two years of related field of work.
- Dexterity and physical condition to maintain a rigorous and strenuous work schedule.
- Ability to maintain cooperative and harmonious relationships with students, staff and parents.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- Possession of a current first aid/CPR certification.
- Skill to read and write so as to be able to understand safety reports and safe use of cleaning materials.
- Ability to understand and carryout oral and written instructions.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs containers of cleaning chemicals.
