Position Summary:

  • This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Coordinates and manages the HIM department operations, establishes priorities and disseminates work.
  • Has responsibility for services at all LVMC Facilities (Acute Hospital, Comprehensive Care Center and The Champion Center).
  • Develops, implements and maintains department and hospital policies regarding confidentiality, security of medical record information and compliance with the laws and regulations.
  • Maintains effective inter- and intradepartmental communications regarding HIM principles.
  • Serves on hospital information management and reimbursement review teams.
  • Assures resources are available, consistent with budgetary considerations, to process the mission, philosophy and goals of the department and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits.
  • Treats visitors, staff, physicians, and patients with consideration and respect.
  • Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
  • Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

Position Duties/Responsibility:

  • Coordinate and manage Health Information management Department operations; prioritize and disseminate work to employees, and assign projects as required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain department policies and procedures, job descriptions, and performance standards.
  • Supervisory responsibility, of hiring and firing authority; formal appraises performance, coaches/counsels employees; takes necessary disciplinary actions; and determines method in which work is performed.
  • Work leadership responsibility on a regular and recurrent basis, assign day to day work to others, check their work, eliminate ordinary work difficulties that they may encounter, and maintain work flow.
  • Maintain effective inter- and intradepartmental communications regarding Health Information Management Department operations and services.
  • Perform and supervise personnel management functions such as hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and terminating employees.
  • Assist in preparation and implementation of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provide resources for staff development and education, and coordinate Health Information Management student clinical education activities.
  • Monitor payroll functions for accuracy and adherence to system guidelines; monitor pay structure for internal equity and market competiveness.
  • Manage assigned projects, prepare management reports, and develop and implement work plans.
  • Assist in development of the budget, and monitor the budget for assigned cost centers and /or operational areas.
  • Monitor department operations and recommend policies and procedures for compliance with Joint Commission guidelines, Title 22 and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage and coordinate Transcription, Release of Information, Coding and Record Processing for timely, efficient, and effective completion of work.
  • Oversee the marketing and implementation of Transcription, Release of Information, Coding and Record Processing services the Health Information Department can provide to departments, and or facilities within the system.
  • Manage departmental computers application: Affinity MRC, MRA, MRI, Transcriptions Lanier system, and the Encoder/Grouper applications.
  • Other Duties Assigned by Supervisor

Position Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimal: Associate’s degree/and or AHIMA RHIT certification

Preferred: Bachelors degree and/or AHIMA RHIA

  • Experience: 3 years experience - 2 years in management position, in Health Information Management field.
  • Certifications: AHIMA registration (RHIT or RHIA)
  • Skills/Ability: Human relations and oral/written communication skills, management experience in hospital/healthcare environment, proven managerial skills, supervisory experience, and computer experience required. Ability to use the following equipment:

Pay: $53.32 - $73.50 per hour
