We are looking for a highly skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of medical equipment, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and life-support devices. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring compliance with industry safety standards and regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and corrective repairs on equipment such as ventilators, defibrillators, anesthesia machines, infusion pumps, patient monitors, surgical lights, and ultrasound machines.
  • Calibration & Testing: Use specialized tools and software to calibrate devices like ECG machines, spirometers, and laboratory equipment, ensuring they meet manufacturer and regulatory standards.
  • Equipment Installation: Install and configure imaging systems (e.g., X-ray, CT, and MRI machines) and networked medical devices, ensuring seamless integration with hospital IT systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with devices, using advanced tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and software-based diagnostic tools.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and device performance. Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, AAMI standards, and The Joint Commission requirements.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct safety checks on life-support equipment, including ventilators and dialysis machines, to ensure patient safety.
  • User Training: Train healthcare staff on the proper operation and care of biomedical devices.
  • Technology Assessment: Assist in evaluating and recommending new equipment purchases to improve operational efficiency and patient outcomes.


Qualifications:

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Formal training in medical equipment repair through military programs (e.g., U.S. Army 68A or Navy HM-8478) is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum 2-5 years of hands-on experience with biomedical equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Experience with networked medical devices, DICOM standards, and medical device IT integration is a plus.


Certifications

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.
  • Additional certifications, such as Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) or Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), are a plus.
  • Manufacturer training certifications (e.g., GE, Philips, Siemens, Dräger) are advantageous.


Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with diagnostic and test equipment, including simulators, electrical safety analyzers, and pressure meters.
  • Knowledge of equipment from manufacturers like Medtronic, Stryker, Olympus, or Hill-Rom.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) integrations and IT networking for medical devices.


Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of ANSI/AAMI standards and medical device lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks, including FDA and ISO 13485.
