About the Position
The Dietitian ensures that the nutritional needs of residents are being met and supervises the work of the Dietetic Technician.
Shift: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 8am to 4pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts nutritional assessment of each resident in skilled nursing. Develops Nutritional Care Plan and Goals based on findings.
- Consults with and provides recommendations to medical and nursing staff on appropriate nutritional interventions to improve resident nutritional status and/or prevent deterioration of health.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of each residents' Nutritional Care Plan and interventions and makes appropriate changes as indicated.
- Documents recommendations, changes to Nutritional Care Plan, and other clinical information in the resident's medical record according to established policy.
- Conducts observations and visits with residents at mealtimes to monitor implementation of the Nutritional Care Plan. Follows up with appropriate staff if interventions are not being implemented properly.
- Participates in Interdisciplinary Care Plan Conferences with a specific focus on each resident's nutritional status.
- Establishes standards of clinical nutritional care and monitors related activities to ensure compliance.
- Ensures that clinical policies and procedures are complete and up-to-date.
- Ensures that the nutrition-related services of the MDS are completed accurately and timey.
- Makes recommendations to the Director of Dining and Nutrition for the formulary of nutritional support products.
- Assists with the statistical analysis and evaluation of indicators in order to monitor the quality and appropriateness of resident care.
- Assists with Quality Improvement programs as requested.
- Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures, and standards of care/service to ensure resident needs and regulatory requirements are being met.
- Evaluates resident perceptions of meal service and items served and makes recommendations as needed.
- Reviews menus and substitutions as well as meal service times to ensure nutritional adequacy.
- Assists in developing cycle menus with a focus on inclusion of seasonal foods.
- Reviews and approves Diet Manual on an annual basis.
- Assists in developing cost control procedures as requested.
- Provides nutritional counseling and/or education to residents and their family members as needed/requested.
- Plans and conducts education programs for staff as needed/requested.
- Current licensure as a Dietitian in PA in good standing.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a Dietitian in a health care setting required.
- Minimum of one year of experience long-term care preferred.
