Lone Star College offers high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education to 80,000 students each semester. LSC has been named a 2023 Great Colleges to Work For® institution by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

LSC consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College.

LSC-Online, the newest LSC campus, features dedicated instructors and offers courses for students who are enrolling in a 100% fully online program. The LSC-Online Campus is an independent campus led by the Executive Vice Chancellor/ CEO, Online Campus. LSC-Online will provide a guaranteed schedule so that students can complete the programs in a two-year period if they so desire.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Developer II, LSC Online designs, develops, implements and tests application software and related integrations. Determines programming requirements for online systems. Designs flexible client-server security frameworks within delivered applications. Works closely with customers, business analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions, and works on elements of large, complex implementations. Applies system solutions to LSC-Online business problems through the design and programming of automated systems. Performs all aspects of custom programming assignments and overall design of delivered services. A member of a 24/7/365 global department and the availability of on-call and after-hour support.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides project leadership and supervision, directing and integrating the work of other analysts and technical personnel
  • Designs, writes, tests, implements, and maintains software. Including interface applications, task scheduled server side applets, and tools for testing and delivery of distributed applications
  • Designs and develops interface programs
  • Provides technical support for LSC-Online's software implementations. Particular emphasis will be on programming languages and developing knowledge of programming transactions. Works with the College staff to ensure adherence to prevailing programming standards when performing analysis, writing documentation, and testing components. Works with business and operations personnel to ensure business requirements and system needs are met (including technical and operational documentation)
  • Analyzes current and continuing information systems requirements. Develops and manages internal procedures, tools, and documents to provide a high level of application integrity and availability
  • Maintains and modifies complex systems and/or designs and develops integrated subsystems. Designs and develops programs to address requirements for data conversions
  • Performs problem analysis to resolve system or application issues. Performs complex diagnosis of problems, providing solutions within area of responsibility, and/or through consulting with other technical staff. Tests and debugs applications in conjunction with business analyst and users, and develops programs for automatic correction of erroneous data
  • Participates in system upgrades and other support activities as needed, and participates in development of improvements to help implement change when needed. Responsible for On-Call and After-hour support
  • Plans systems development work in response to planned changes in infrastructure and vendor application support
  • Stays current with technological developments in systems and application support, best practices
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Proven ability to develop applications in multiple programming environments; Must have solid programming skills
  • Familiarity with security requirements, web services, service-oriented architecture, design patterns, multi-threaded systems, and automated unit testing
  • Knowledge of learned routines, procedures, practices and more complex skills; Training in certain procedures or equipment may be required
  • Ability to deal with somewhat complex problems that must be broken down into manageable pieces; Must be able to see relationships between problem components and prioritizes them
  • Ability to utilize knowledge, experience and available resources to find solutions
  • Ability to participate in development of improvements and help implement change
  • Ability to collaborate with team and share relevant information with those who may be affected by decisions

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule And Conditions

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
  • May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience with IT/application support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years of object-oriented programming experience or an industry standard object-oriented programming certification. Such as: JAVA SE Certified Programmer 1 or Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD)
  • At least 2 years of web development experience or an industry standard web development certification. Such as: CIW: JavaScript Specialist, Web Design Specialist, or Web Foundations Associate


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or Certification which includes:
  • SQL
  • XML
  • SOAP
  • JQuery/Javascript/Bootstrap
  • HTML5
  • .NET 4
  • Visual Studio IDE
  • Experience working with the Learning Tools Interoperability standard
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems


Salary

Hiring salary range is $69,679-$80,131

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
