Functional Summary
Support the company's safe practices. The Safety Manager will monitor and implement the company's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy and accident free work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Safety Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Create a culture of Safety for our people by maintaining the company's safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) rules and regulations.
- Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, injury prevention, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other safety related items.
- Inspects Company facilities and projects to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Handle all OSHA related issues such as inspections, yearly reports, job site posters, citations, hearings, etc. Performs field safety audits to ensure compliance with all OSHA, State, Local and company safety rules and regulations.
- Compile the monthly safety tracking data report for management. Produces other safety reports as needed.
- Completes all accident/injury/incident reporting and performs investigations to determine cause and possible preventive measures for future work of a similar nature. Further investigates all injury claims to ensure company is protected from fraudulent worker compensation claims.
- Makes corrective action recommendations to upper management concerning safety and health issues that may affect the company.
- Regularly reviews worker compensation claims data for possible employer modification rate adjustments.
- Purchase required safety equipment for company personnel.
- Manages the transitional return to work program for injured workers.
- Provide inspection reports to project team and supervisors for job sites or facilities that are inspected.
- Compile and submit accident and yearly reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Conduct employee safety orientation training programs and new hire safety orientations.
- Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk throughs for jobsites/plants as required.
- Assist the Investigation of vehicle damage accidents and prepare required reports.
- Organize yearly Safety Meetings and maintain employee training logs and coordinate training needs for all safety related issues.
- Maintain and administer safety related tracking and paperwork.
- Maintain and administer the Company SDS manuals.
- Assemble and manage site specific safety plans when required.
- Maintain safety manual, emergency management plan and loss control manual.
- Recommend and enforce disciplinary actions against safety policy violators.
- Attend safety related seminars, meetings, forums, etc. as needed.
Safety and Teamwork
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
- Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- BA
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Work Experience
- 5 years experience with heavy highway paving OSHA, MSHA
- MSP, CSD
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
Working Conditions
- Out of town travel might be required
- Overtime as required
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements
