Staff and student schedules allow time for both staff and students to get to know each other. Staff collaboration is a priority in order to insure student needs are being met each day. Staff to student ratio is small, allowing for more individualized attention each day.
The Lone Tree Community School District is located along the Hwy 218 corridor with access to Iowa City in approximately 15 minutes. Lone Tree has a small-town feel with ready access to the amenities of Iowa City, Kirkwood Community College, and the University of Iowa. Job Title: Transportation Director/Coordinator
Job Expectations
- Perform the daily activities described by supervisor(s)
- Attend regularly and communicate any instances where that cannot happen
- Be able to communicate in a range of formats, including but not limited to face to face, phone, and email
- Adheres to all state laws, regulations, and inspections regarding school transportation.
- Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventative safety.
- Recruits, trains, and supervisors all transportation personnel, and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
- Advises Superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
- Cooperates with school principals, athletic director, and others responsible for planning special school trips.
- Prepares bus routes.
- Prepares transportation budget in conjunction with the Superintendent and Business Manager.
- Authorize purchases in accordance with budgeting limitations and district rules.
- Approves and forwards transportation service invoices to accounting department.
- Maintains all district-owned equipment and develops plans for preventative maintenance.
- Works with bus drivers, school principals, and parents when discipline issues arise with students on the buses.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all routine maintenance and repairs on every school vehicle.
- If a sharing agreement is in place with another district, work with the sharing partner as agreed upon through meetings with superintendent.
Reports to: Superintendent
Preferred Qualifications: Commercial Driver's License, basic knowledge of mechanics, and approved DOT physical.
