ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


The basic function of the Heat Treat Operator is to ensure the parts are heat treated to customer specifications as contained within the work order.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including Health, Safety and Quality Assurance policies.
  • Report injuries, accidents, near misses or unsafe conditions to a supervisor or Manager immediately.
  • Read production schedules and work orders to determine processing sequences, furnace temperatures, and heat cycle requirements for objects to be heat-treated.
  • Set up and operate machines, such as furnaces, baths, flame-hardening machines, anneal, and heat-treat metal.
  • Determine types and temperatures of baths and quenching media needed to attain specified part hardness, toughness, and ductility, using heat-treating charts and knowledge of methods, equipment, and metals; adjust controls to maintain temperatures and heating times, using thermal instruments, charts, dials, gauges of furnaces, and color of stock in furnaces to make necessary settings determinations.
  • Remove parts from furnaces after specified times, and air dry or cool parts in water, oil brine, or other baths; position parts in furnaces, using tongs, chain hoists, or pry bars.
  • Load parts into containers and place containers on conveyors to be inserted into furnaces or insert parts into furnaces.
  • Ensure that work areas are always maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


EXPERIENCE


  • Preferably 3 years in heat treat facility


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); preferred
  • Be able to speak/communicate in English.
  • Able to read, understand, interpret and follow detailed work instructions and manufacturing specifications
  • Ability to adjust to changes without compromising Quality or Performance
  • Must be able to work a shift schedule and overtime as needed, including weekends
  • Must be willing to work a shift schedule.
  • Background in fasteners or similar industry preferred.
  • Previous experience with material testing is highly preferred
  • Good understanding of customer requirements, API, ASTM, ASME, IFI and industry standards is desirable.
  • Ability to adjust to changes without compromising Quality or Performance.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


  • Must be able to stand for the duration of scheduled shift
  • Ability to manually load or unload materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms up to weighing 50 lbs
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close, Distance, Peripheral, Depth, and Ability to adjust focus
  • Manual dexterity using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pull, reach, grab, hold, lift, and hammer
  • Constantly positions self to maintain material in the department area, including lower pallets.

  • Manufacturing and warehouse environment with multi step process production runs on different machines. High value highly customized components, long and large parts, and high precision manufacturing for critical service applications
