Job Overview:
LoneStar Metalcraft is seeking a talented and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our team on a part-time, as-needed basis. This position will involve creating technical drawings and 2D/3D models for a variety of fabricated components, including signs, oil and gas components, and miscellaneous parts. The role requires proficiency in AutoDesk Fusion 360 and SolidWorks, and will require the employee to come into the office to take measurements from existing products, if applicable. Additionally, the designer will be required to attend at least one weekly meeting. Hours will vary between 0 to 30 hours per week, depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create accurate technical drawings and 2D/3D models for fabricated components such as signs, oil and gas parts, and other custom shapes.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure designs meet specifications and requirements.
- Modify and refine existing designs based on feedback.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Maintain organized and accurate CAD files and project documentation.
- Troubleshoot design issues and provide solutions as needed.
- Take measurements from existing products when necessary to ensure designs are accurate.
- Attend at least one weekly meeting to discuss project progress, priorities, and any design issues.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in CAD software and technology.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoDesk Fusion 360, and SolidWorks.
- Previous experience doing CAD work or currently enrolled in an engineering program (preferred).
- Experience designing fabricated components, especially in industries like oil and gas, signage, or manufacturing, is a plus.
- Strong understanding of design principles, geometry, and materials.
- Ability to create and modify both 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of fabrication processes and the ability to design for manufacturability.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with 3D rendering and simulation software.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and other engineering standards.
- Familiarity with CAM software or CNC programming. Lincoln TorchMate huge plus.
