ABOUT THE POSITION
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure Theater Performance Professor commencing with the fall 2025 semester. This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Minimum Qualifications
  •  Master's or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theatre arts/performance
 OR
  • Bachelor's or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theatre arts/performance
 AND 
  • Master's in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities
 OR the equivalent

Local Equivalency Statement
A bachelor’s degree in Theater, or a related field (such as those listed under Minimum Qualifications) with at least five years full-time equivalent professional work in the field in such areas as; directing, acting, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, sound design, projection/video design, theatre management, theatre intimacy, theatre movement and/or stage combat, and other related theatre work involving creation and performance of theatre.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Evidence of an ability to address and adapt to the instructional needs of varying student levels, using a variety of innovative, culturally relevant and responsive teaching strategies, as well as equity minded pedagogy, to encourage retention and student success in a wide range of theater courses.
  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in acting performance and/or directing. Additional experience in other related areas (Movement, Viewpoints, Alexander Technique, Vocal Training, dance choreography, intimacy directing, stage management, stage design) is also desired.
  • Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Acting and/or Directing.
  • Commitment to work with students in activities outside of the classroom is essential.
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.
  • Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
  • Commitment to the Mission and Strategic Objectives of the college.
  • Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with computers, and other technologies in order to provide high-quality classroom and lab instruction.
  • Willingness to develop new curricula and innovative materials for instruction.
  • Proficiency in instruction and implementation of acting and directing techniques.
  • Creativity, flexibility, imagination and dedication are necessary to effectively perform the duties of this position.

Transcripts can be official or unofficial and must be submitted as an attachment. The conferral date must be on or before the application deadline in order to meet Minimum Qualifications.
  • Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES)or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc (AICE).
  • Applicants who do not meet the Statewide Minimum Qualifications for this discipline verbatim are required to submit a Supplemental Equivalency Application.
