Grant-funded positions are time-limited and contingent upon sufficient funding.

The Student Support Services/Matriculation department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our Outreach and Recruitment Specialist!  These incumbents will represent the College at local K-12 schools, community organizations and the general public; plan, coordinate and participate in events and activities at local schools, coordinate campus tours and host day activities. We are looking for someone who has experience in the development and/or selection of marketing and promotional materials, coordinating, and overseeing outreach program activities to meet timelines; participation in student orientation and transition activities that prepare students to be successful in college. AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION 

  • Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week) and Part time (19 hours/week)
  • Position Status: Permanent 
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday; Nights and Weekends 
  • Location: Will support both campuses, but could be located at either the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) or Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC)
  • Salary: Range 28, $4,894.54 - $6,018.56 Monthly (full-time) and $2,324.90 - $2,858.82 Monthly (part-time)
  • Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications. 
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision of the Director of Student Outreach and Recruitment, the Outreach and Recruitment Specialist will be responsible for representing the College at local K-12 schools, community organizations and the general public; plan, coordinate and participate in events and activities at local schools, coordinate campus tours and host day activities and respond to visitation and information requests from schools, groups, individuals and agencies in the community; and performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Education, Training and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience working in an educational setting with a diverse student population; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to speak, write, and read in Spanish is highly desired.

 

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.


Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Selection Process: 

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
  • scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs*** 
  • in-person or online:
    1. written examination(s)
    2. qualifications appraisal oral examination 
    3. performance examination
    4. technical oral examination (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

Supplemental Application Scoring: Week of March 3rd

Performance/Qualifications Appraisal Interview (may be via Zoom or in-person): Week of March 24 

Final interview (in-person only): Week of April 7
