ABOUT THE POSITON

We are accepting applications on an on-going basis for future consideration into the PT Faculty Pool. 

 

We are looking for candidates who have the desire and willingness to cultivate an inclusive classroom culture that positively engages and impacts our diverse student population. Candidates should also demonstrate sensitivity to issues of diversity and have the ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities or varied levels of academic preparation. As one of the most diverse community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, vocational and occupational programs. 

 

The teaching assignment may be at the Pacific Coast campus, at the Liberal Arts campus and/or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Candidates should show evidence of sensitivity to, and understanding of, the socioeconomic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the college student population, including students with physical and/or learning disabilities, as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Any Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the discipline; OR,
  2. Any Associate degree and six years of experience in the discipline; OR,

the equivalent AND

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.


Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to teach beginning, intermediate and advanced courses related to architecture, interior design, and design-related fields
  • Ability to oversee and guide student projects to meet student learning outcomes
  • Ability to provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
  • Expertise in field of course(s) to be taught.
  • Proficiency in Online Instruction. 
  • Proficiency in using Canvas for content delivery.
  • Preferred software latest version of Rhino, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite and/or REVIT.
  • An ideal candidate will have recent experience working with racially minoritized students in the classroom, and a willingness to use culturally responsive instructional practices.

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS
  • A Long Beach Community College District application.
  • A current resume.
  • ALL graduate and undergraduate transcripts, showing school name, all college coursework, degree title and conferral date. This includes transcripts for any and all for the following degrees, BA/BS, MA/MS and above (Ed.D, Ph,D, etc.) and courses used for transfer credit. Transcripts can be official or unofficial and must be submitted as an attachment. The conferral date must be on or before the application deadline in order to meet Minimum Qualifications.
  • Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc (AICE).
  • Applicants who do not meet the Statewide Minimum Qualifications or this discipline verbatim are required to submit a Supplemental Equivalency Application
