ABOUT THE POSITON

The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. As one of the most diverse community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, vocational and occupational programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES :

  • Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's in health science, health education, biology, nursing, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, dietetics, nutrition or public health;
  • OR ,

    Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in public health, or any biological science; OR ,

    OR , The equivalent

    AND ,

    Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

    Desirable Qualifications

  • At least two years of recent experience teaching public health and / or health education to college students, with preference to community college experience.
  • Evidence of an ability to address and adapt to the instructional needs of varying student levels, using a variety of innovative, culturally relevant and responsive teaching strategies to encourage retention and student success in a wide range of public health courses.
  • Previous experience developing and / or teaching online or partially online courses with an online course management system (e.g., Canvas).
  • Experience teaching dual enrollment courses.
  • Knowledge and experience of Community Health Worker programs or experience working directly with Community Health Workers.
  • Experience working with college students outside the classroom.
  • Knowledge and experience with program, certificate and curriculum development.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with public health entities, community agencies, and other community groups.
  • Understanding and experience working with Student Learning Outcomes and the assessment process.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, faculty and staff in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to the Mission and Strategic Objectives of a community college.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with computers, multimedia, and other technologies that are utilized in providing high-quality instruction.
  • Bilingual in English and another language.

    LICENSE AND / OR CERTIFICATE :
