The Workforce Development department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Manager, Placement Services to oversee and enhance our job placement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in career services, client relations, and workforce development, with a passion for connecting job seekers with career opportunities. The incumbent will also be responsible for directing the work of assigned employees, administering budgets, and is someone who has experience in providing direct, day-to-day organizational and technical coordination. Responsibilities include managing job placement programs, building relationships with employers, providing guidance to job seekers, and tracking placement success. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for driving outcomes and supporting both clients and employers in a fast-paced environment.

• have the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders across the District and lead a diverse team

 

AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION

• Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)

• Position Status: Permanent

• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

• Location: Will support both campuses, but could be located at either the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) or Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC)

• Salary: Range 9,$107,922.00 - $147,044.00 Annually

• Eligibility list: Will be valid for 6 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.

• Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties

 

GENERAL PURPOSEUnder the direction of an assigned administrator, oversees the day-to-day operations of the District's job and placement services team. This position is responsible for directing the work of assigned employees, administering budgets, identifying employment opportunities, engaging industry, and evaluating the career needs of students to develop effective placement service supports and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Manager, Placement Services is responsible for providing direct, day-to-day organizational and technical coordination of programs and services organized through Workforce Development or program area related to job placement and work experience. The incumbent develops methods to deliver placement services to students from the time of enrollment through graduation, transfer, and becoming alumni.

Qualifications

 

Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in education, human services, business, or a closely related field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a workforce development service or similar public program, with one (1) of those years serving in a supervisory/leadership role; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy. Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Selection Process: The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

• screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
