Job Title: Gateway to Gardening Coordinator Position
Location: Long Beach Organic community gardens (throughout Long Beach)
Pay Rate: $22 per hour. This position is grant funded.
Hours: 20 hrs per month
Summary: Under the direction of the Garden Director the Gateway to Gardening Coordinator will establish, oversee, and coordinate services as outlined by the program initiatives to successfully operate the Gateway to Gardening Program across eight community gardens in Long Beach.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Conduct field trips, tours, workshops, volunteer events and classes
- Coordinate with cooperative master gardeners, LBO gardeners and local businesses to provide education on gardening, nutrition, health principles, art and other topics relevant to the program initiatives
- Oversee measurement of goals with monthly and annual reporting
- Maintain Sensory and Learning Garden areas
- Participate in grant applications, funding, and management of grant funds
- Support fundraising events
- Manage program outreach utilizing social media, Zeffy, and surveys
- Oversee maintenance, purchasing and care for program supplies and materials
- Oversee waiver forms, sign-in sheet, and protocols for all on-site events
- Coordinate with Garden Director bi-weekly
- Manage contractors, volunteers, and interns
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of gardening, garden maintenance, nutrition and preparation of fresh produce
- Supervisory experience and experience working with people requiring specialized service needs
- Garden education experience
- Organization skills
