JOB DESCRIPTION : The purpose of the High School Academic Counselor is to facilitate learning for students and being a member of the educational team to improve the teaching climate, promote social, emotional, moral and mental growth of students. The counselor must work cooperatively with the students' parents, community, administrator, and organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Valid Mississippi Teachering Certificate with counseling endorsement
Previous HS Counseling experience
Positive attitude, attention to detail, time management skills and ability to multitask
DUTIES :
Assists students with career development for the purpose of choosing classes.
Assist students with referrals for the purpose of helping the student stay on track with the high school experience
Consults with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and other appropriate individuals for the purpose of discovering the reasons for problems, resolving problems, giving information to help with scholarships, giving information to assist in testing
Coordinates students' appraisal for the purposes of complying with the testing requirements and providing the students with the necessary mechanism for getting to college.
Creates and revises student schedules for the purpose of ensuring the proper class placement, correct scheduling problems and develop proper student placement
Establish committee for at-risk students for the purpose of ensuring that the student is successful and passes to the next grade level
Evaluates students transcripts for the purpose of ensuring that students are appraised of proper course alignment, course selection and parent involvement
Monitor and evaluate transcripts and grades for seniors for the purpose of ensuring that every senior has every opportunity to graduate and that every senior that graduates has met the requirements to do so
Perform all other duties assigned for the purpose of fulfilling the needs of the school administration
Provides individual counseling interviews for the purpose of ensuring that student's' counseling needs are met
Provides group counseling for the purpose of providing information that is important for a specific segment of the student body
