Under the direction of the Money Room Supervisor, the Money Counter, using coin and currency counters, will assist with the counting of fare box revenue, which includes money, receipts from the sale of bus passes, the preparation of fare box system reports, the transfer and set-up of fare box system equipment, and necessary cleaning duties in the fare box system work area.
Responsibilities
- Uses a high-speed coin sorter and counts, bags, tags and stacks fare box revenue for armored truck pickup
- Counts revenue generated from ticket and pass sales
- Prepares vault reports, bank deposits, fare box exception reports and other miscellaneous reports
- Performs tasks to ensure a clean environment, including sweeping, dusting and orderly arranging of money room equipment
- Observes all rules and regulations pertaining to personnel safety, security of the money room and fare counting equipment
- Allocates monthly passes and tickets to sales outlets
- Travels between LBT’s facilities
- Drives to Los Angeles to drop off tokens and pick up passes at Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro)
- Other duties may be assigned

- Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Must be able to read, write and speak English well enough to sufficiently perform all essential functions and duties of a Money Counter
- Must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, be cooperative, and to accept constructive feedback
- Ability to perform repetitive lifting of 50-pound coin bags, including bending and stooping
- Analyzes situations, identifies problems and recommends solutions

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- A valid California driver’s license and safe driving record is required
Salary Rate: $21.38 per hour
Compensation packages are determined based on a variety of factors specific to each candidate, including geographic location, skillset, the mix of relevant education, certifications, experience level, and performance. At Long Beach Transit, compensation decisions are made considering the unique requirements and circumstances of each position.
