Position Purpose
As a LONG Fire Alarm Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, government, and correctional environments. Your role will ensure that fire alarm systems and related equipment are properly installed and functioning to meet both local and national fire safety standards. You will independently handle routine service tasks and work with project teams on more complex assignments. Additionally, you will deliver exceptional customer service by ensuring systems operate efficiently while addressing any technical issues that may arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Install, repair, and maintain fire alarm systems, including control panels, detection devices, manual pull stations, notification devices, and associated wiring.
- Accurately document completed work and submitted daily time entries via the relevant software.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and system inspections, including cleaning, part replacement, software updates, and system optimization to prevent failures. Inspect for physical damage, wear, and degradation.
- Provide clear and effective communication with customers, addressing inquiries, offering technical guidance, and resolving issues.
- Educate system users on the proper operation and maintenance of products and systems.
- Advise customers on necessary equipment replacements or critical repairs to maintain optimal functionality.
- Troubleshoot system issues to ensure continuous performance.
- Attend construction meetings as needed for ongoing projects.
- Assist in preparing quotes for small projects or system upgrades, including time and materials estimates.
- Contribute to the update of system drawings and equipment records, submitting redlined documents for as-built documentation.
- Travel throughout Montana (MT) as required.
- Be available for on-call duties as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with the installation and wiring of low-voltage systems.
- Solid understanding of electronic principles, including AC/DC theory, Ohm’s Law, and the ability to read and interpret a digital volt/ohm meter.
- Proficient in alarm systems, low-voltage wiring, and construction processes.
- Strong ability to use hand and power tools, with a proactive attitude toward learning and expanding knowledge across various systems.
- Excellent analytical skills for troubleshooting software and system integration issues.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to guide installation procedures.
- Capable of independently managing multiple tasks with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to build positive relationships with clients.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to legally operate a company vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in fire alarm installation, system test and inspection, and maintenance.
- Relevant certifications in fire alarm systems (e.g., NICET) preferred.
- Knowledge of LONG’s operations, procedures, and infrastructure, as it pertains to construction operations.

Physical Requirements
- This work may involve standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces.
- This position may require lifting to 50 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.
- This position may require climbing ladders and the ability to function at heights.
