What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education docent position at Long Island Aquarium?
Summary:Do you like science, animals, and people? If so, consider applying for our Aquarium educator position. Our aquarium features African penguins, stingrays, sharks, butterfly house, and lots of fish! Aquarium educators help us greet, interact with, and educate our visitors in the Aquarium. Being an educator requires good people skills, a love of animals, and the ability to retain information. You'll interact with our visitors during every shift and contribute to their positive experiences here at the Aquarium. You’ll share important conservation messages with our guests, an essential part of how we meet our mission to inspire scientific curiosity and encourage personal discovery about life and the natural world
Responsibilities:
- Must be able to run guided tours of the Aquarium.
- Must have be able to retain and communication to guests
- must be able to write and give lectures
- follow lesson plans and teach remotely.
- Must be fun-loving, patient and genuinely concerned for the welfare and development of young people.
Qualifications:;
- Prior aquarium or education experience preferred
- CPR/First Aid Certified strongly encouraged;
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills;
- Work well with minimal supervision;
- Flexibility in work schedule with the ability to work weekends and holidays;
- Minor lifting may be involved.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
