Job Summary
The Long Island Explorium, a dynamic children's science museum located in the scenic Village of Port Jefferson, is seeking enthusiastic individuals with a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to inspire young minds through hands-on, interactive programs. This part-time role is perfect for those who love engaging with children and families, sparking creativity and problem-solving. Prior experience as an educator is welcome, but not required. We are looking for individuals who bring curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. Afternoon and weekend availability is required, with the potential for this role to expand into a full-time position.

ABOUT THE LONG ISLAND EXPLORIUM CHILDREN’S SCIENCE MUSEUM
The Long Island Explorium (LIE) is a children's science museum recognized as Long Island’s Family Maker Space, offering hands-on STEM programs that inspire creative thinking and problem-solving. Our unique programs encourage curiosity and innovation through interactive activities that promote teamwork and experimentation. We focus on making STEM education accessible and exciting for all learners.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Facilitate engaging STEM programs for children and families through hands-on workshops and activities.
- Lead in-house programs, afterschool workshops, and weekend sessions, including scout badges, birthday parties, and family workshops.
- Work with our outdoor demonstration gardens to explore topics like native plants and marine life.
- Collaborate with museum leadership to develop and enhance programs, bringing your own skills and creativity to the role.
- A friendly, creative, and upbeat attitude is required to carry out LIE’s mission to deliver an educational, engaging, and enjoyable learning experience.
- Create a positive, fun, and inclusive environment that sparks curiosity and a love for STEM.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and/or education is required (relevant experience will be considered).
- A passion for STEM and an interest in sharing that enthusiasm with children and families.
- Prior experience as an educator is welcome, but not required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage children and adults.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, organized, and adaptable.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week, including weekends.
- Must have some weekday morning or early afternoon availability.
- Must work some holidays and special events.
- Background checks will be completed on all employees.
