What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Assessment position at Long Island University?
Job Duties: The College of Pharmacy Assistant Director of Assessment, to be located at the LIU Brooklyn Campus, will provide support for curricular and programmatic assessment activities in the College of Pharmacy for both the ACPE accredited professional program (entry-level Pharm.D.) and the College’s graduate programs . The Assistant Director will work collaboratively and constructively with the Director of Assessment, faculty, administrators, and key committee chairs to address assessment needs . He/she will report to the Associate Dean for Accreditation and Assessment.
The Assistant Director of Assessment will support the A ssociate Dean for Accreditation and Assessment and the Director of Assessment – Faculty in the following duties:
- Work with various College committees, faculty members, and administrators to identify , design and refine measurement tools ; collect, analyze, and report assessment data to meet ACPE (A ccreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) accreditation requirements for assessment of student learning and program effectiveness ; and to identify strategies to improve overall student learning and for continuous programmatic quality improvement ;
- Develop strategies to increase the capacity of the College of Pharmacy faculty and staff to achieve internal, University, and ACPE assessment and curricular goals ;
- Assist in the implementation and update of the existing programmatic evaluation plan for the College ;
- Support tracking of individual student performance data in meeting ACPE accreditation requirements ;
- Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research to produce institutional data at the program level that will inform analysis of program effectiveness (e.g., program admissions and retention data, course grade analysis) for the professional program ;
- Serve as a central repository for all assessment data and analysis for the College, providing data to constituents as requested , while m aintain ing student and faculty/staff confidentiality ;
- Manage and disseminate to key stakeholders’ data related to student achievement of core competencies and learning outcomes, national surveys (e.g., AA CP Curriculum Quality Surveys) and standardized examinations (NAPLEX, MPJE ) ;
- Participate in the course evaluation process through the conduct of periodic student focus groups and the administration of the online course evaluation platform ;
- Maintain a database of student performance indicators within the PharmD program (e.g., GPA) that is linked with external assessment measures (e.g., NAPLEX) ;
- Relate student performance measures within the PharmD program to prior admissions data to improve predictions of student success ;
- Manage the assessment platform ExamSoft ;
- Review the College of Pharmacy’s annual assessment of student learning reports (as required for accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education ), provide feedback, and provide related faculty development ;
- Assist with managing the logistics of various assessment activities including Pre-APPE examinations ;
- Develop and p articipate in workshops and other programs on assessment for the College of Pharmacy ; Perform other duties as assigned ;
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in a directly related fi e l d (e.g., social science, assessment, statistics) ; doctoral degree a plus ;
- A t lea st two years of higher education experience in assessment , with experience in program evaluation ; e xperience with assessment activities for pharmacy or ot her health profession preferred ;
- K nowledge of assessment processes, student learning outc omes, and accountability issues ;
- A dvanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research des ign ;
- D emonstrated experience in designing, administering, and analyzing assessment instruments (e.g., rubrics, test blueprints, and alumni surveys ) ;
- Proficiency in the use of assessment tracking and data analysis tools, statistical databases , data management (data gathering or storage) or assessment software , and MS Office suite of applications ;
- E xcellent analytical, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required ;
- An active interest in ongoing professional development in areas of assessment , particularly as it relates to pharmacy education .
