The Department of Occupational Therapy at Long Island University, Brooklyn has an opening for a full-time Assistant Professor to teach and advise occupational therapy BS/MS students, beginning September 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, teaching, and maintaining curriculum in their areas of expertise, as determined by the Program Director. They will serve as an academic advisor to students and engage in scholarly activities, including mentoring student research, presenting at conferences, publishing, and pursuing grants. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to stay current in their academic discipline, contribute positively to committee service within the department, university, and profession. Faculty members in this position report directly to the Occupational Therapy Program Director.

Qualifications
Successful candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy will possess the following:
- A post-professional clinical or research doctorate (e.g., OTD, EdD, ScD, PhD).
- Five (5) or more years of practice experience and demonstrated clinical, community, and/or academic teaching experience in their area of expertise. Candidates with less than 5 years of experience but with outstanding academic performance (e.g., enrolled in terminal degree programs such as OTD, EdD, PhD, ScD), notable scholarship, or clinical achievements (e.g., CHT, BCP certifications) will be considered.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in New York.
- Commitment to academic excellence, scholarship, and professional growth.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and colleagues across disciplines, fostering an educational environment built on respect, integrity, teamwork, and professionalism.
- Dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational setting.
- Evidence-based approach and growth mindset that supports innovative teaching and learning.
- Strong communication skills with colleagues and students, promoting productive dialogue and engagement.
- Proven ability to work effectively with teams, contributing to a collegial and collaborative atmosphere.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level occupational therapy students.
- Expertise in a specialized practice area or discipline including physical rehabilitation, neuroanatomy, anatomy, and kinesiology, hand/upper extremity rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation.
- Earned terminal doctoral degree (e.g., OTD, EdD, ScD, PhD).
- Experience with student advising, and supervision of student research or other capstone projects.
- Active engagement in professional organizations or interest in becoming engaged in the AOTA, NYSOTA.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly with Brightspace, as well as teleconferencing software, particularly Zoom.
