Basic Function And Scope Of Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Associate Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily interfaces between the PeopleSoft finance general ledger, payroll, and student finance modules through the computing, classifying and accurately recording day-to-day transactions. This includes a daily review of the tuition calculation and cashiering interfaces and coordinating with staff in various departments to resolve differences found in reconciliations. This position will also assist with monthly and year-end closing cycles of the general ledger, including recurring journal entries and allocation entries.
The candidate for the Senior Accountant position must be able to prioritize effectively, be analytical, possess a keen attention to detail, as well as proficient computer skills. The candidate must be able to work under pressure in a high demand area, handle multiple projects simultaneously with a great deal of accuracy, and use critical thinking to solve problems independently. This candidate must work well with staff at all levels within a diverse, multicultural, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities And Duties
Bachelor’s degree with major in accounting, business, or finance. CPA preferred.
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience
2 or more years of related Accounting experience.
Prior Experience Working In An Academic Environment Preferred.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft or other higher education software ERP system preferred.

Responsibilities And Duties
- Monitor and reconcile daily, monthly and/or yearly fiscal records.
- Monitor, research, collaborate and coordinate resolution of reconciliation variances identified including recommendations of appropriate solutions or corrective actions and adjustments as needed for resolution.
- Perform monthly and year-end closing accounting tasks (prepare journal entries, perform reconciliations and analytical reviews for assigned balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts).
- Manage bank activity, including preparing journal entries and/or entering transactions into the financial information system, ensuring reconciliation of bank statements.
- Compute taxes owed and prepare sales tax returns. Ensure compliance with payment, reporting, and other tax requirements.
- Compile, organize, and analyze information in order to prepare monthly closing entries and statements for student-run businesses and stores.
- Review vendor payments to ensure accurate 1099 reporting.
- Track capital equipment purchases and maintain inventory database.
- Prepare various reports and assemble information for audits.
- Utilize computer programs for reporting, tracking and monitoring transactions.
- Coordinate with supervisor or other designee on various initiatives including improving and streamlining functions, processes, and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller’s Office.
