Lead Communications Locator

Long Lines Broadband is seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Communications Locator to join our team. This leadership role involves managing a team of 3-4 employees, ensuring the accurate locating and marking of underground utilities, and contributing to system maintenance and infrastructure projects. Job Type: Full-time

Rate: $25-$30/hour plus on call and overtime pay if applicable

Location: Sergeant Bluff, IA

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Lead and manage a team of 3-4 employees, ensuring high standards of productivity and quality.
• Read and interpret maps and documentation to accurately locate underground utilities.
• Operate handheld detection equipment to identify and mark utility locations.
• Prioritize and schedule locating requests to optimize efficiency.
• Mark underground utility locations using spray paints, flags, and required tools.
• Accurately document completed locates using a company-provided laptop.
• Update and maintain current mapping data using GIS mapping software.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure infrastructure maps are accurate and up-to-date.
• Analyze and verify mapping data for consistency and identify opportunities for improvements.
• Support plant design, quality control, damage prevention, and residential/commercial development projects.

A successful Lead Communications Locator has:

• Experience in the locating industry and familiarity with underground utility construction.
• Proven ability to manage and lead teams effectively.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with employees, contractors, homeowners, and work crews.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications.
• Availability to participate in on-call schedules (every 4 weeks).
