Position Overview: The Controller will oversee the financial operations of the company, ensuring that financial records are accurate, compliance is maintained, and key financial data is available for decision-making. As a key member of the leadership team, the Controller will manage accounting and financial reporting processes, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow).
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Provide management with regular financial performance reports, variance analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop, implement, and manage annual budgets and forecasts for the company.
- Collaborate with senior management to define financial goals and performance targets.
- Monitor budget performance and recommend adjustments as needed to stay within financial targets.
- Cash Flow and Working Capital Management:
- Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure sufficient working capital for day-to-day operations.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring optimal cash cycle management.
- Develop strategies to optimize inventory management, reducing holding costs and improving cash flow.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Oversee audits, tax filings, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Ensure that company financial operations comply with all regulatory requirements.
- Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the daily accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations.
- Process Improvement and Systems Implementation:
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement software or other technologies to automate financial operations and reporting where applicable.
- Strategic Support:
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Participate in pricing strategy, vendor negotiations, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Assist with business acquisitions, partnerships, or other major financial decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a managerial role, preferably in a wholesale distribution business.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills. (ERP experience is a plus)
- Knowledge of tax laws, GAAP, and industry-specific regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, with standard office hours and occasional overtime during busy periods.
- May require periodic remote site visits for audits or operational support.
