REPORTS TO: Principal or Director of Special Education
JOB MISSION: To provide targeted assistance to students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
1. PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
1.1 Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other teachers; apply the best research in the design and development of school curriculum.
1.2 Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.
2. PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION
2.1 Set short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning.
2.2 Develop and maintain lesson plans based on short-term and year-long goals and share when appropriate.
3. USE OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
3.1 Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning.
4. EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUCTION
4.1 Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards.
4.2 Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.
4.3 Assist with data collection, eligibility criteria and student selection
5. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
5.1 Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and with the teacher, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.
5.2 Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
6. EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
6.1 Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
6.2 Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings.
7. CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
7.1 Be available for student and/or parent conferences.
8. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOOL AND/OR TEACHING PROFESSION
8.1 Work collaboratively to identify areas for school improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.
9. ENFORCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE WITH SCHOOL REGULATIONS
9.1 Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the school system.
EVALUATION: Consistent with current Agreement between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.
